摘要

Terminal reliability into the design of Computer Communication Network (CCN) has the vital role which depends on the reliabilities of the network element and its topological design. The topographical design is basically concerned with location of computers and communication links design is basically concerned with location of computers and commutation links connecting them so as to satisfy the performance requirements with the least cost. The problem of preparing a topological layout of a CCN with optimum ST-reliability if faced by the network designer whenever a new network is setup or an old network is expanded. The present paper attempts of address the above problem by suggesting a heuristic approach for the same. The goal is achieved by deciding the physical location of computer and communication links in such a way that the network required for desired connectivity is optimized. Thus the ST reliability of a CCN with a fixed topology is optimized for a given set of link reliabilities. The results reported in this paper have been compared with those derived from exhaustive enumeration technique. It is observed that these results are very close to the true optimum results in all the cases.
