Introduction and Review of Literature When facing competitive pressures firms may downsize their workforce in an attempt to improve profitability and reduce costs. However, the downsizing process must be properly managed to reduce the negative consequences associated with it. The feelings and emotions of the survivors cannot be ignored. How the survivors adjust and cope with the situation determines to a great extent the success of the process.
