Greater specialization in the academy and more sophisticated methodologies have tended to lead research further from practitioner ways of making sense of the world. Increasingly segmented scrutiny of organizational dynamics, spanning the psychological to the institutional realms, makes it difficult for even academics to keep up with findings across the fields. Integrity of research requires this. However, as scientific complexity increases, the communications gap between research findings and value-added to the practitioner world increases, making Daft and Lewin's observations as salient as ever. In light of this, one must ask, "Is the intent of organization studies to create knowledge for its own sake, or is the intent of organization studies to create knowledge that meets the test of adding value in the real world?"
