CEO dismissal has drawn much attention from strategic management scholars in recent years (e.g., Carpenter and Weikel, 2011; Crossland and Chen, 2013; Crossland and Hambrick, 2011; Graffin, Boivie, and Carpenter, 2013; Wiersema and Zhang, 2011). Research contends that CEO dismissal is affected by firm performance, earnings management, power, and board composition (e.g., Boeker, 1992; Boeker and Goodstein, 1993; Brunello, Graziano, and Parigi, 2003; Guan, Wright, and Leikam, 2005; Hambrick and Fukutomi, 1991; Haleblian and Rajagopalan, 2006; Ocasio, 1994; Shen and Cannella, 2002, Wiersema and Zhang, 2011). Few studies have examined the influence of demographics on CEO dismissal, especially in the Chinese context.
