Five articles are featured in this issue. They deal with the problem of finding employees with the required skills, which are often basic skills; best business practices of the best companies in Mexico; a new model for curriculum design in leadership development; political skills at work; and organizational culture and knowledge management at an Abu Dhabi gas company in the United Arab Emirates. Bell, Hartgrove, Elkins, and Starnes, in the first article, deal with the problem of candidates who are applying for jobs but lack the necessary skills. They describe a plan used in what is called the four-county Highlands Economic Partnership. The article focuses on workforce development and describes strategies of engagement involving business and health-care organizations, parents, school systems, and post-secondary institutions.
