Transition to AACSB 2013 Standards: A Dean's Perspective

In May of 2015, Kutztown University's Department of Business Administration in the College of Business achieved the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) initial accreditation under the 2003 standards. We were one of the last institutions to earn accreditation under the 2003 standards, but we are now among some 777 institutions that have transitioned or are transitioning to the 2013 standards. As the leader of the unit that must move from what has been called a maintenance mindset to a continuous improvement mindset, it is clear that one of the success factors in transitioning is the ability to make a conceptual leap from linear thinking, which views the standards as a checklist of completed items, to nonlinear thinking, which views actions and outcomes as iterative, integrated, and connected.
