In early May, Hamburg-based classification society Germanischer Lloyd (GL) ran the first of its new seminars on compliance with IMO's new Convention for the Safe and Environmentally Sound Recycling of Ships - ahead of the adoption of the convention later that month.rnThe four-day Approved HazMat Expert seminar in Hamburg anticipates the huge demand for expertise in the area: when the convention comes into force (probably in 2013) it will require approximately 50,000 ships worldwide to have a certified 'inventory of hazardous materials' (IHM) on board, listing hazardous materials present in structure and equipment.
