STS under scrutiny

Lessons learned from last August's collision between two tankers during a ship-to-ship (STS) transfer off eastern England will lead to a tightening of standards for STS service providers and their superintendents. The UK's Marine Accident Investigation Branch's report into the incident noted: "There are no occupational standards definedrnfor superintendents or masters in control of STS operations."
