Insurers urge crews to avoid over-reliance on technology

Marine insurers have said that crews need to be better trained in the use of electronic navigational systems as there are fears that blind trust in technology is increasing the dangers of groundings and collisions. The UK P&l Club has issued a warning to its members amid reports of GPS systems having been hacked, while insurers fear that variations in versions of the same electronic navigation systems can see major obstacles removed from maps.
