1. Four persons armed with automatic weapons in a speed boat were seen approaching a San Pedro Pio product tanker, anchored at Bonny River's inner anchorage in Nigeria. The report to the International Maritime Bureau revealed that two of the party managed to board the vessel and opened fire on the crew, aiming towards the accommodation quarters. The attack took place in the evening of 15 April at around 20:20 UTC. However, Nigerian naval guards on board the tanker returned fire forcing the assailants to retreat to their speed boat and escape. According to IHS Markit data, the vessel was already under arrest by the Nigerian Navy for oil smuggling on 9 March 2018, explaining why naval guards were already onboard the vessel when the attack took place.
