Errors in the Classical Calculation of the Demagnetizing Factor for a Cylinder

A formula is proposed for the central demagnetizing factor N over the whole possible range of its dimensions and magnetic properties. This formula is used to analyze the error in determining N by means of the classical formula for a cylinder. Parameter ratios such that the influence of the magnetic properties of the cylinder on N may be neglected (with specified error) are determined.
