For those paying to comply with emissions regulations, it seems a reasonable question to ask, 'where is it all going to end?' Transport secretary Grant Shapps gave an answer to that in a speech to the Low Carbon Vehicle Partnership (LowCVP) Conference, held online on 15 July. In post-pandemic Britain he said, "low carbon vehicles are no longer our goal. We have to decarbonise road transport altogether." The next few months, he continued, "will see government putting its full weight behind the net zero campaign." This is the move to end all vehicle carbon emissions and is being led by DfT's Net Zero Transport Board. Shapps chaired its first meeting in early July.
