Gap acceptance and crash prediction at intersections

摘要

A pilot study for the New Zealand Transport Agency aimed to establish a survey and data analysis process to develop safety models that would enable practitioners to better understand crash risk at urban intersections. Video-based peak period data was collected at eight Christchurch sites and analysed to measure vehicle headway and the distribution of gap acceptances of drivers making two movements - the right turn in and the right turn out. The pilot study report presents the results from the data analysis.
