Acknowledgment of Prior Solution to MVK Cancer Model

We recently proposed a method for numerical solution of the time-nonhomogeneous two-stage MVK model of cancer (Crump et al., 2005), based on the Kolmogorov backward equations for that process. The solution consists of a system of four coupled ordinary differential equations, which can be integrated simultaneously to obtain the hazard for the occurrence of the first malignant cell and the corresponding cumulative hazard. After our article was published, we became aware for the first time of earlier solutions to the MVK model and extensions thereof (Little, 1995; Little et al, 2002; Little & Wright, 2003). We appreciate this opportunity to acknowledge the prior work of Dr. Little and co-authors.
