We Need Risk Communication and Perception Research Focused on Flood Risks for Senior Citizens

Kellens, Terpestra, and De Maeyer reviewed a part of the risk perception and communication literature that focuses on floods. They begin with a statement of facts: annually floods kill about 20,000 people and impact at least 20 million more. Kellens et al. add that this risk is likely to increase because of global climate change. These numbers are worthy of our attention. Yet, the deficiencies of the literature become even more glaring by drilling down into the details of the impacts and the needs.
