Network processor market to reach $2.9 billion

As the demand for increasing amounts of bandwidth rises, so will the market for network processors, according to high-tech market research firm Cahners In-Stat Group, Scottsdale, AZ. The firm estimates that the market will reach $2.9 billion by 2004. No network chipmaker is likely to take over the market as Intel has done in the PC chip market, Cahners said, but Intel is likely to be a major player. Motorola and IBM are forecasted to be Intel's competitors along with about 15 other companies.
