An understanding of Woodrow Wilson's Presbyterian faith as being a foundational influence to him is crucial to making sense of his ideas and policy decisions during his presidency. Presbyterianism influenced basic thought patterns in Wilson, such as a comfort with contradictions, serious attention to the meaning and power of words, and a view that political organizations were means and not ends.
