Setalux XCS 1518 BA-45, a New CPO Acrylic Adhesion Promoter Resin for Plastic Coatings

Adhesion of coating systems onto plastic substrates is traditionally difficult to achieve, because of the low surface energy and inertness of commonly used plastics, espey thermoplastic polyolefins (TPO) such as polypropylene. The low surface energy can result in poor wetting of a coating layer onto TPO substrates, which is a basis for poor adhesion. In addition, TPO substrates normally lack polar and/or reactive functional groups. Therefore, adhesion by formation of chemical bonds between the coating layer and the substrate is often also not possible.
