摘要

Vehicle theft is an ever-evolving crime with increasing sophistication in deceiving police and avoiding detection. One simple, but still common, thing thieves do is swap license plates or in some other way alter the vehicle's outward appearance to hide in plain sight. This is the most common way to circumvent being noticed while driving the stolen vehicle because it is very difficult to sec or notice underlying information like the Vehicle Identification Number (V1N). Instead, it is often by luck that a stolen vehicle is identified during traffic stops or during another crime being committed. Therefore, it is obviously highly desirable to identify and automatically notify authorities when a vehicle is stolen to increase the chance of recovery.
