摘要

Horizontal and vertical curves on roadways may have substandard design for the posted speed limits, speed advisories and/or operational driving speeds. This may be due to initial construction prior to modem design standards, design exceptions prior to construction, or other factors. Additionally, inadequate stopping sight distance may be introduced by new construction or changes in the roadside environment after the initial construction. This in turn impacts the safe speed at which drivers should navigate the curves. In the urban context, roadways may be signed or oftentimes driven by vehicles at speeds that are inappropriate for the built and pedestrian environments in which they are operating. The process described in this document details methods for using an assortment of on-vehicle and external data sources to address these issues.
