High Speed Sintering of Polyamide 12,12

Polyamide 12,12 (PA12,12) and polyamide 12 (PA12) are polymerised via different routes. PA12,12 is synthesised via 1,12-Diaminedodecane and Dodecanedioic acid which polymerise in an alternating fashion. PA12 is synthesised via either the ring opening polymerisation of lauroiactam, (which then propagates in a head-to-tail fashion), or, the polycondensation of ω-aminolauric acid with a bifunctional monomer. Figure 1 shows the subtle difference in polymer repeat unit which can lead to differences in the hydrogen-bonding between adjacent chains. Therefore, different physical properties between PA12,12 and PA12 are expected. Herein, we report the novel manufacture of PA12,12 parts via High Speed Sintering (HSS).
