Results show that fume-hood containment is influenced by small changes in laboratory configuration. A recently completed study by a research team headed by Farhad Memarzadeh, a senior mechanical engineer at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Bethesda, Md., provides a detailed understanding of the ways in which air-flow interactions within a lab can affect fume-hood containment.
