E-Commerce Stocks Hold Steady in May

After several months of volatile fluctuations, including double-digit gains and losses, the REC Index of 48 e-commerce stocks took a breather in May, closing the month with a slight gain of less than 1 percent. Although lagging behind the Dow Jones Industrial Average (up 16 percent) and the Standard & Poor's 500 (up 5 percent), the REC Index's minor gain was slightly better than the minimal drop by the NASDAQ Composite (down 0.3 percent). In a year-over-year comparison, the REC Index's 27 percent drop bested the NASDAQ Composite (down 38 percent), but was worse than the Standard & Poor's 500 (down 12 percent) and the Dow Jones Industrial Average (up 4 percent).
