What are the biggest challenges facing aircraft manufacturers at present in terms of technology limitations? Firstly, aircraft must be safe. So, any new technology must first prove that it will not jeopardise current safety levels. This is, without question, the single biggest challengf for any new technology being considered. In some segments, for example the sub-50-seat market, disruptive technology is required to make a product, and the segment, economically viable again in terms of operational costs. Single-pilot capability and electrical engines are examples of solutions that could help to drastically reduce operational costs. However, these options must also be proven to be reliable and safe; this takes time and limits the speed of technology implementation in aviation.
