This concise work is essentially a directory of organizational sources relevant to international librarianship. The cover notes state that it "identifies basic background sources for the study and teaching of international librarianship", but this is at once somewhat misleading, and also too narrow a definition. Apart from an overview of trends and issues in international librarianship, which introduces the main body of the text, and a discussion of significant international statements and decisions on various aspects of information policy, the major part of the work is a compilation of international organizations and agencies in the field of library and information work, together with a systematic listing of national libraries and national bibliographic agencies for the countries of the world.
