RR 2008/14 Historical Dictionary of Marxism

The indefatigable Scarecrow Press rapidly supplements the second edition in 2006 of its Historical Dictionary of Socialism (RR 2007/271) with Historical Dictionary of Marxism in 2007. Purists in philosophy and in political theory and practice might ponder and query the raison d'etre of these works, and the difference (if any) between them. My view is that their differentiation could have been greater and better defined. Overlap of the two volumes is largely in their coverage of states, parties, movements, and individuals closely or remotely influenced by the seminal thinking of nineteenth century theorists and activists such as Robert Owen, Fourier, Saint-Simon, Proudhon, Marx, Engels, Bukharin and Plekhanov.
