The present volume is the latest addition to the now established Blackwell Companions to Literature and Culture series, which includes A Companion to the Gothic (RR 2000/244), A Feminist Companion to Shakespeare (RR 2001/95), and A Companion to the History of the Book. Editor of the present volume, Sara Castro-Klaren, is professor of Latin American Culture and Literature at Johns Hopkins University and is the recipient of several teaching awards. She was appointed to the Fulbright Board of Directors by President Clinton in 1999 and has written extensively on Latin American literature and culture.
