Film Stars and Their Awards: Who Won What for Movies, Theater and Television

For more than 80 years, the film industry has recognized its members for achievement and merit, both technical and creative. Events in and of themselves, award ceremonies confer further recognition on the work done during any given year, while also marketing that work to a global audience. Although the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences award (the Oscar) given for film achievement may be the most well-known of these competitive awards, it is by no means the only one. Other organizations and associations in the USA and Europe also bestow prizes and other distinctions each year. And, while there is a great deal of interest by many in the technical aspects of film, television and theatre, it is in the category of best actor and best actress that both the industry and the filmgoer show continued fascination.
