The environment is seen as even more important than the financial chaos of recent times, as a dilemma we face now and will leave to future generations, and as a challenge for stewardship that involves all species and not just human beings. As a result it attracts policy-makers, academic researchers, philosophers and ethicists and has evolved into a key cross-disciplinary field. It is also one of direct interest and concern to all levels of society and education, and one where coherent and readily-useable reference sources are much needed for schools, colleges and universities, offering the order and focus which random Googling rarely provides, above all in the hands of amateur searchers.
