A Concise Companion to Contemporary British and Irish Drama

This "concise companion" is a follow-on from the same publisher's A Companion to Modern British and Irish Drama 1880-2005 (Luckhurst, 2006) (RR 2007/325). "This companion emerged", write the editors, "from a realization that the historical scope [of the earlier work] meant that it was impossible to do justice to the incredible proliferation of dramatic and theatrical practices that have emerged during the past twenty-five years". Thirteen essays by 11 UK and two US academics focus on major and emerging playwrights, institutions and various theatre practices in British and Irish theatres since 1979. This work is the fourteenth in the Blackwell Concise Companions to Literature and Culture, a series that "offers accessible, innovative approaches to major areas of literary study. Each volume provides an indispensable companion for anyone wishing to gain an authoritative understanding of a given period or movement's intellectual character and contexts".
