From corsets to training bras and breeches to bell-bottoms, children's clothes have outgrown the formal dress of history and matured into a playful fashion of their own. Progress in fabric manufacture and design, more flexible attitudes to childhood and a growing consumer market continue to allow modern children the freedom and choice that their counterparts three hundred years ago would not have known. The Dictionary of Children's Clothes illustrates beautifully the evolution of junior clothing from the eighteenth century to the present day, with nearly 400 colour photographs from the V&A Museum of Childhood.
