Sherlock Holmes on the Stage: A Chronological Encyclopedia of Plays Featuring the Great Detective

Sherlock Holmes is, without doubt, the world's most famous detective. He first appeared in print in 1887 and was featured in four novels and 56 short stories written by his creator, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. There are numerous books on the Sherlock Holmes stories - indeed, I have reviewed one previously in these columns (Green and Watt, 2007) (RR 2008/70), but it is highly likely that Amnon Kabatchnik's book on Holmes is a first, as it examines the theatrical Holmes.
