Recent years have witnessed a proliferation of reference works to support academic courses in sport science (e.g. Churchill Livingstone's Dictionary of Sport and Exercise Science and Medicine; Jennett, 2008), sports medicine (e.g. Oxford Dictionary of Sports Science and Medicine; Kent, 2006) (RR 2007/342) and sports studies (e.g. Sport and Physical Education: The Key Concepts; Chandler et al., 2002). This dictionary is aimed specifically at students of the latter, and in particular those studying the social and political sciences.rnIt has been written as a "tool for students to turn to when in the process of reading and researching, concepts and ideas are raised about which they wish to know more or simply clarify meaning; as a reference source providing a quick source of factual information, as a means to obtain a baseline of knowledge, a grasp of the essential points related to a particular area".
