ABC-Clio's Encyclopedia of the Vampire presents the well-trod lore of the living dead who rise at sundown seeking human blood. Vampires are found in the lore and culture of many civilizations. In the western world, since the publication of Irishman Bram Stoker's Dracula, it seems as though each generation has had its own vampire present in its popular culture. Edited by S.T. Joshi, each contribution in the Encyclopedia of the Vampire is a signed article. The contributors to this work are all experts in their field, writers, editors, and professors in literature or cinema. In fact, the work seems to feature vampire portrayals in literature and cinema, highlighting numerous films both classic and infamous, from the 1970s spoof Lowe at First Bite, starring George Hamilton as the amorous count, to the Blaxploitation film Blacula, also a product of the 1970s. Somehow, the Mel Brooks contribution from 1995, Dracula: Dead and Loving It, starring Leslie Nielsen was omitted from this reference work.
