Historical Dictionary of the United States Navy (2nd edition)

Among the growing number of dictionaries in the Scarecrow sub-series covering War, Revolution and Civil Unrest, this is the only one to be confined to the history of a single navy (which can trace its origins back to state navies established before the US itself). The first edition, which I have not seen, was published in 1998: the second has certainly been much expanded, being 120 pages longer, but it is not made clear what has been added. The text has in most appropriate cases been updated to 2009, although there are some entries which betray evidence of not having been updated when they might have been.
