Atlas of European Values: Trends and Traditions at the Turn of the Century

The European Values Study, sponsored by the University of Tilburg, began in 1981 and has since been carried out at nine-year [sic] intervals. At first, for obvious reasons, it was confined to West European countries, but by 2008 had extended as far as Russia and Turkey. The present volume displays its principal conclusions in an easily accessible manner, mostly in the form of maps, but sometimes using graphs or pie charts: there are few tables of data. The results are normally shown on a country-by-country basis, although microstates seem to be excluded. There is no bibliography, presumably because the book is compiled directly from the study. In most cases, trends over the period 1981-2008 are indicated. Each section is provided with a short commentary on its results. The headings include such topics as nationality, family life, work ethics, religious belief, political engagement, and moral attitudes.
