It might be expected that the longest volumes in the extensive Scarecrow series of historical dictionaries would be devoted to the largest countries, but such is not the case with the volume for Namibia, which covers a nation with a population of less than two million, and yet, with 950 entries of between 20 and 3,000 words, is one of the longest of the series and thereby one of the most extensive in its coverage. The first edition appeared in 1992, but this new one has been comprehensively revised and extended, many of its articles referring to the present-day situation; they cover persons, ethnic groups, parties, organizations, places, natural features, events, treaties and legislative acts.
