This is, in the reviewer's opinion, simply the best single serious volume on the study of the Olympic Games movement produced to date. I have avoided the word academic because whilst all the contributions are indeed scholarly, they are not necessarily academic and will appeal to a broad cross section of interested groups as noted below. The compilation is divided into five parts - The Modern Olympics: Pre-history (two articles); The Olympics: Case Studies (ten); The Olympics: Disciplines (five; The Olympics: Social and Political Issues (13) The Olympics: For and against (two); with a total of 35 articles penned by the most recognized scholars, journalists and other commentators on the Olympic Games from around the English speaking world.
