Every day, we are confronted with a frenetic maelstrom of events from every corner of the world. To make any sense of the relentless changes, we need the long stare and the deep understanding of regional and big picture histories. Wiley Blackwell's A Companion to Global Historical Thought allows the reader to ponder both the processes and the products of the historian crafting narratives that convey perspective over societal and geographical distances. Wiley has published dozens of companions to national, regional and topical histories. Global history is an especially complex topic, and the authors started by clarifying "how the concept of the global is used in relation to historical thought". The authors are historians and sociologists, teaching in broad areas such as Turkish studies or Buddhist studies or Arabic and Islamic studies. Their list of publications are numerous and impressive.
