Dietrich Bonhoeffer, despite his numerous writings, is perhaps more famously known for his stalwart resistance against the Nazi regime that ultimately cost him his life a month prior to victory in Europe (VE) Day in 1945. We are fortunate so many of his writings were preserved and did not perish in the horrors of the Second World War. Twentieth Century Religious Thought. Volume Ⅰ: Christianity includes two multi-volume editions of his work that provide a better understanding of him than any biography could. The resources offered through Twentieth Century Religious Thought. Volume Ⅰ: Christianity are extensive and provide a fascinating look into twentieth-century contemporary ideas on Christian philosophy and theology. With 80 authors and countless books, notes and correspondence (including thousands of pages from Reinhold Niebuhr's archival materials), one can easily become lost in the flood of resources available. There are two versions of each item presented: a digital scan of the original material as a jpeg and an html/text version. The digital scans are great to look at but with each page turned, the Web page needs to reload. This leaves the html version as the best for skimming and browsing. I did notice a couple of spelling errors in the html version but by switching to the digital scan (easily done), one can see the correct spelling.
