Wildlife of Madagascar

Every naturalist wants to visit Madagascar (sometimes called "The Eighth Continent") at least once in their lifetime and if you could take only one field guide on your trip this would be the one. Although the island is famous for all its lemurs, it also has a vast unique wildlife population with many endemics and this book does cover mammals, birds, reptiles, frogs, invertebrates and plants. The book doesn't claim to be comprehensive but rather to cover all the species that are most likely to be encountered in a visit, and it also lists the most popular natural sites worth visiting (all 20 of them). The authors do admit that, for instance, bird watchers will find species that are not covered, as would mammal enthusiasts, etc. Thus, it is really aimed at casual visitors and is probably not ideal for a specialist library shelf but good as an all-round book on the wildlife of Madagascar.
