It really doesn't seem to matter which of our seminars I present, the contractor's question is always the same: "What key pieces of information do we need to track to know whether we are on target?"In order to answer that question we need to make a baseline assumption or two. The most important is you have put a budget together that not only includes your overhead costs but also the estimated number of hours you expect to sell (or will need to sell) to meet that budget. Assuming the budgets have been developed, by department, there are three major pieces of information that need to be tracked each month. If you can accurately track these three things, however, most everything else will pretty much fall into place.
