I had an inkling when penning my last Ramblings column about Davies Charlton that it would strike a chord with some modellers. But I've been amazed by the number of emails received recounting the fond memories DC owners had with their inexpensive engines. Last time the story arrived at the point where DC had successfully relocated to the Isle of Man (I.O.M.) Alan Allbon had left the company and new products were coming on line. This included the 1cc Spitfire, 1.5cc Sabre and a small range of kits for control line; the Chipmunk, DC Bipe, Wimpie and the free flight Ballerina. Around this time, they also started selling my all-time favourite control line handle, which was die-cast from aluminium and featured an adjuster (to tweak line length for trimming purposes), along with a range of DC nylon propellers, fuel tanks and fuel cut out valves.
