Silence Twister

There can be little doubt in anyone's mind that the designers of the Twister have drawn inspiration from the much loved Supermarine Spitfire. The full-size aircraft, often seen at airshows around the UK, is a single-seater designed to take engines up to 94hp. The prototype was fitted with a 53.6hp single-rotor Midwest Wankel engine which slipped entirely within the very compact sleek engine cowling. Curiously, the Twister actually began life as a model. Designed by Thomas and Matthias Strieker, it flew so well that they created a full-size version spanning just at little under 25ft. At 67" tip-to-tip this version of the aircraft from the prolific Seagull company (via J. Perkins Distribution) is close to 1/5-scale.
