Exactly four years ago, our friendly editor contacted me and asked if I would be willing to write a few words from a modeller / pilot's point of view about a Spitfire instrument panel that had been drawn by Greg Thompson. This led to a successful series of articles and drawings of various aircraft instrument panels which, I'm delighted to say, seemed well received. Anyway, with Danny Fenton's latest masterclass on the Hawker Fury steaming ahead at a pace, we agreed to resurrect the series and add the Hawker Fury Mk.1 panel to the set. You'll find a number of builds of the subject model (the 60" span Dennis Bryant-designed Hawker Fury) on the RCM&E forum at modelflying.co.uk. They are listed in 'The Workshop' section under 'Hawker Fury Mk.1 - RAF's Finest Biplane'. You can also read about the progress of Danny's model in his scale column (next update,]une issue-Ed). From my own point of view, I'm building the model as an introduction to the new BMFA Scale Model class called Light Scale (see Switch On, page 8-Ed). The event is for 'flying only' scale models with a maximum weight of 5kg, which should encompass club scale models and, hopefully, increase the number of BMFA scale competitors.
