The North American P-51 Mustang, is often called the most recognizable airplane in the world and I have no reason to doubt that claim considering the places the Mustang has been and the number of years the 'Stang has been in service. P-51's have a long and proud history and have flown with the Air Forces of at least 25 different countries, including many you would never suspect, such as the 50 Mustangs that served in the Chinese Air Force from 1944 until the mid 50's, the 3 Mustangs that were sent by the U.Us. to the Cuban Air Force and 44 Mustangs that served in the Air Force of the Dominican Republic where they were still in front line service as late as 1984. There are more Mustangs still flying today than any other front line fighter from WWII and this is nothing but a testament to the durability of the design and the reverence with which its pilots and crews hold the Mustang. And besides all that, it's just one gorgeous airplane.
