Train control supports urban rail projects

The pressure for rail investment in Indonesia is growing strongly. Rapid industrialisation, increasing trade and the growth of the main urban areas are driving up the demand for transport, which in turn is stimulating many more infrastructure projects, particularly in the rail sector. In its long-term development plan, the Indonesian government has identified the need for more railway infrastructure, particularly in urban areas. As well as the high-profile Jakarta -Bandung high speed line, these projects include the 86 km Jakarta metro network on which work started in September 2015, light rail lines in Jakarta, Palembang, Bandung and Surabaya, and an automated peoplemover at the capital's Soekarno-Hatta International Airport.
