FlixTrain Takes To The Rails

On 6 March 2018 expectations (see R 6/17, p. 34) were confirmed when the German long distance coach operator FlixBus announced that it would start running its own trains under the FlixTrain brand name, starting on 23 March. The first service, formerly provided by HKX, is that between Hamburg Altona and Koln Hbf, which FlixBus initially operated over the 201 7/18fes-tive season under the promotional name of ,,HKXmass". The inaugural train, hauled by Taurus ES64U2 - 005, departed from Hamburg-Altona at 08.36 (see the accompanying photo), with arrival at Koln Hbf scheduled for 12.57.
