Go-Ahead Wins Southern Norway Operating Contract

Following the opening of the rail passenger service market to competition (see R 6/17, p. 52), the first contract has been awarded. On 17 October 2018 Jernbanedirektoratet (the Norwegian Railways Directorate) chose Go-Ahead Norge, the Norwegian subsidy of the British Go-Ahead Group, as preferred bidder for the Tender 1, South, the contract being signed on 30 October. Go-Ahead Norge is to take over services on 15 December 2019. These are three groups: Sørlandsbanen - Oslo to Kristiansand and Stavanger-long distance services (591 km), Jaerbanen - local services between Egersund and Stavanger (75 km), Arendalsbanen - the 36 km branch line between Nelaug on the Sørlandsbanen and the port of Arendal.
