UZ's Plans For New Electric Locomotives Still Hang In The Balance

AtInnoTranson 19 September 2018 Alstom and UZ signed an MoU under which they would collaborate on the acquisition and maintenance of electric locomotives. UZ is planning to acquire 495 new locomotives over the coming ten years. On 20 September 2018 UZ signed a further Memorandum of Cooperation, this time with CRRC (both seeR5/18,p. 12). Among the foreign manufacturers keen to become involved in the Ukrainian market is Bombardier. But as the Minister of Infrastructure Volodymyr Omelyan reckons: „As always, everyone is waiting for a UZ tender, in which Alstom, Bombardier and the Chinese companies are ready to take part."
